Urologists Now Offering New Therapy to Treat Enlarged Prostates
Dr. Joe Mobley, III, and Dr. John Beddies with Kentucky Lake Urologic Associates have recently introduced a new therapy – Rezūm™ Water Vapor Therapy – to treat enlarged prostates in older men.
Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a condition in which a man’s prostate becomes enlarged and obstructs the flow of urine. It causes frustrating symptoms, including frequent urination; weak, interrupted urine stream; difficulty starting and stopping urination; feeling a sudden urge to urinate; inability to urinate when needed; and lack of control over urination. BPH is more common in older men, affecting about 50% of men by age 60, and up to 90% of men by age 85.
Rezūm Therapy is an in-office treatment for men looking to treat BPH, not just the symptoms. It uses natural water vapor to reduce the size of the prostate and provides lasting symptom relief from BPH symptoms without invasive surgery or the potential side effects of prescription drugs.
Cleared by the FDA in 2015, this therapy is currently being used in many leading urology practices throughout the United States and around the world. To date, more than 55,000 patients have been successfully treated with Rezūm Therapy. Rezūm Therapy is considered a covered benefit by Medicare and most private insurance, but patients should verify their benefits with their insurance company in advance of the scheduled procedure

Kentucky Lake Urologic Associates Now Using Axonics Therapy to Treat Patients With Overactive Bladder, Incontinence And Urinary Retention
Kentucky Lake Urologic Associates urologists Dr. Joe Mobley, III, and Dr. John Beddies recently announced that they are utilizing a new treatment for patients with overactive bladder, bowel incontinence and urinary retention.
Axonics Therapy is a method for treating symptoms of overactive bladder (including urinary urgency incontinence), bowel (fecal) incontinence and urinary retention. Backed by clinical studies, Axonics Therapy is clinically proven to regain bladder and bowel control and deliver clinically meaningful improvement in quality of life.
Axonics Therapy provides gentle stimulation to the nerves that control the bladder and bowel, which can restore normal control and result in symptom improvement. Axonics Therapy is indicated for patients who have failed conservative treatments, such as lifestyle changes, physical therapy, or medications.
Patients will first undergo an evaluation to see if Axonics Therapy is right for them. The patients will undergo a short period of therapy using a temporary system. The evaluation period allows the patients to experience the level of symptom relief the therapy may provide before committing to long-term therapy.
If the patient and urologist determine that Axonics Therapy is right for the patient, he or she will have an outpatient procedure where the miniaturized Axonics implant is placed just beneath the skin in the upper part of your buttock.

HCMC and Kentucky Lake Urologic Associates Offer Innovative Imaging Agent to Improve Detection of Certain Bladder Cancers
Henry County Medical Center is one of a limited number of medical centers nationwide that offer Blue Light Cystoscopy with Cysview® (hexaminolevulinate hydrochloride). Cysview is an FDA-approved, optical imaging agent that makes non-muscle invasive bladder cancer glow bright pink in blue light so urologists can see tumors better.
Bladder cancer is the fourth most common cancer in the United States. Estimates state that more than 82,000 new cases of bladder cancer were diagnosed in the U.S. in 2018. Up to 50% of NMIBC patients will have their bladder cancer recur — that’s the highest recurrence rate of any form of cancer.
HCMC urologists Dr. Joe Mobley, III and Dr. John Beddies of Kentucky Lake Urologic Associates will use Blue Light Cystoscopy with Cysview for both bladder cancer surgery and follow-up cystoscopy. The system also allows them to detect patients with the disease earlier and manage it more appropriately.
“If we can find more cancers earlier in the process it is going to impact recurrence rates, which is a great benefit to patient care,” said Beddies. “This technology makes the procedure less time consuming and is non-toxic for the patient. And, it’s relatively inexpensive for them, as well.”
Beddies noted that HCMC would be the only hospital between Memphis, TN and Paducah, KY that can offer patients this technology.
White light cystoscopy has long been the gold standard for detecting suspicious lesions during transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TURBT) procedures. Often bladder cancer lesions are hard to see and can be missed. Now, since being included in the 2016 AUA/SUO Guideline for NMIBC,5 Blue Light Cystoscopy (BLC®) with Cysview is becoming the gold standard.
For BLC, about an hour prior to the procedure, Cysview is placed into the bladder using a catheter. During the procedure, the urologist first looks inside the bladder using white light, then switches to blue light mode. In blue light, Cysview makes the cancer cells glow bright pink allowing the urologist to more easily identify and remove tumors.

Kentucky Lake Urologic Associates First In State To Be Nationally Recognized For Overactive Bladder Care
Paris native and Henry County Medical Center urologist Dr. Joe Mobley, III, a 1995 graduate of Henry County High School, is the first physician in Tennessee and one of 40 nationally recognized with a Center of Excellence award from Medtronic for excellence in overactive bladder care. Kentucky Lake Urology’s InterStim specialists are Dr. Mobley, Dr. John Beddies, and FNP Morgan Stone. Their Overactive Bladder, Urinary and Fecal Incontinence program has improved hundreds of lives in West Tennessee and the surrounding areas. They focus on offering patients the most up to date therapies and continued care.
Dr. John Beddies, also a Paris native and a board certified urologist, also offers the InterStim system and was the first urologist in the state to implant the MRI compatible upgrade. Morgan Stone is a 2010 Vanderbilt University nurse practitioner graduate and has eleven years of experience as a nurse practitioner specializing in urology.
“We are pleased to be the first in Tennessee and only the 40th Center of Excellence in the United States for overactive bladder care,” said Lisa Casteel, HCMC CEO. “The entire staff at Kentucky Lake Urologic Associates are committed to providing excellence in care to their patients and look for opportunities to expand their skills to offer the most comprehensive care possible. We are proud to offer growth in services to our patients.”
The designation of a Center of Excellence recognizes physicians and programs that have distinguished themselves as leaders in the InterStim therapy. It has been awarded to less than one percent of all physicians currently implanting InterStim therapy in the United States, and Dr. Mobley is the first in the state of Tennessee to be recognized. Selection criteria are rigid and based on clinical excellence in education, patient care, case volume and outcomes. Dr. Mobley has implanted over 250 patients with the InterStim system and serves as a trainer for new implanters.
“It’s quite an honor to receive the first Center of Excellence for InterStim therapy in the state of Tennessee,” Dr. Mobley said. “This certification highlights not only our commitment and success with the therapy but also the higher level of care and cutting edge technology available in our community through Henry County Medical Center. I hope this reinforces what many have known, that patients can receive some of the best and most effective therapies right here at home without the need for travel to larger cities.”
Dr. Mobley practices at Kentucky Lake Urologic Associates in Paris, treating diseases of urinary system from urologic cancers, kidney stones, erectile dysfunction, urinary incontinence, female pelvic organ prolapse, testicular disorders, and general urology. Dr. Mobley received his Masters in Public Health from George Washington University and his medical degree from the University of Tennessee. He completed a fellowship in female urology at the Cleveland Clinic and is certified by the American Board of Urology.
